Orchids are one of the most colorful plants in Philippine backyard gardens, with their spectacular blooms. And for this, The Philippine Orchid Society (POS) has been very active in promoting orchid growing in the country through their orchid and garden shows twice a year.

In celebration of the blooming season of the Sanggumay, the Cattleya orchids and also the Phalaenopsis, The Philippine Orchid Society successfully staged its 74th Annual Orchid Show, which was held from February 20 to March 1, 2020 at the Quezon Memorial Circle, Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City. The event highlights the promotion and revival of the hobby and technology in orchid growing and also plant growth in general.

The orchid show featured various garden and landscape displays on orchids, bonsai, foliage plants, cacti, and succulents. Aside from the displays, there are also free lectures on the growth of various garden plants, and there is a trade show beside it which sells an assortment of orchids, flowering plants, houseplants, cacti, succulents, bonsai materials, vegetable seeds, potting mixes, flower pots, fertilizers, and garden tools. With this, a lot of garden enthusiasts, orchid hobbyists and plant growers flocked to the site.

The show also aims to promote friendship and camaraderie among orchid and plant enthusiasts and share technologies in growing this unique and beautiful plant. As a whole, society is promoting gardening as one of the leisure activities and hobbies of releasing stress and obtaining happiness by being close to nature. (NORBY BAUTISTA)
