Rice supply sa bansa, hindi kakapusin ayon kay Agri Sec. Dar

Sakabila nang umiiral na Enhanced Community Quarantine sa buong bansa dahil sa banta ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) ay sapat naman ang suplay ng bigas hanggang sa susunod na apat na buwan ayon kay Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar, Huwebes, Marso 26, 2020.

“With harvest already coming in, along with the steady arrival of imported rice, we expect no shortage of the staple during the duration of the enhanced community quarantine and beyond,” Dar said.

Sa pagtatala ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), kumokonsumo ang pamilyang Pilipino ng 35,369 Metric Ton kada araw, o higit 1.2 million MT kada buwan. Nasa 2.66 million MT ang rice stock sa bansa sa pagtatapos ng buwan ng Marso na tatagal ng 75 days. Ito ay dahil sa mataas na importation and new harvest rice sa bansa.

Aniya, kinokonsidera naman ng Department of Agriculture (DA) na makapagpunla o magtanim na ng mas maaga sa ilang mga lugar sa bansa partikular sa Regions 2 at 3, para masmapalawig pa ang produksyon ng rice supply sa third quarter ng 2020. Ito rin ay covered ng Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund at ang paggamit ng hybrid seeds.

“We can’t be complacent now. Cooperation, coordination, and understanding of each other’s plight can go a long way. Let’s help each other, consumer and producers alike,” Dar said.

Inaasahan ni Secretary Dar na makikiisa ang lahat sa koordinasyon, kooperasyon, at maunawaan na maihahatid ng maayos ng mga suppliers ang mga pangangailangan ng bawat consumers sa bansa. (DM)
