While some countries have gradually decreased the Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases recorded each day, Covid-19 cases in Africa have surpassed the 2 million mark on Tuesday, Statista reported.
According to Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of daily new cases has been increasing over the past month and an average of 8% increase was recorded.
South Africa is said to be the African continent that is the most drastically affected country with more than 700,000 citizens infected.
Ivory Coast on the other hand has the lowest Covid-19 cases reported with less than 22,000.
According to the World Health Organization, testing in Africa is very low compared to other regions.
“Most African countries are focused on testing travellers, patients or contacts, and we estimate that a significant number of cases are still missed,” said Matshidiso Moeti, regional director from the WHO.
As of writing, Africa has recorded 2,012,000 total of Covid-19 cases. (Vivienne Audrey Angeles)
