GENERAL SANTOS CITY (Region 12), Philippines — The SOCCSKSARGEN Press Club (SPC), in partnership with the PNP-12 Press Corps and the General Santos City Police Press Corps (GSCPPC), held a relief goods distribution to the students of Ligaya National High School in this city yesterday (Monday, Nov. 23) in commemorating the 11th anniversary of the  so-called “Maguindanao massacre”.

Eleven years ago, 58 people were killed. Of the 58 victims, 32 of them were journalists, mostly writers and broadcasters of newspapers and radio stations operating in General Santos City.

SPC President Joseph Jubelag, a regional-based correspondent of Manila Bulletin and editors of the SAPOL daily news and weekly-based Mindanao Bulletin, Isagani “Atoy” Palma, president of the PNP-12 Press Corps and information officer of the LGU-Malungon in Sarangani province, and Jazztein Jubelag, president of the GSCPPC, led the distribution of the food packs that day.

In a press statement posted at the facebook account of PNP-12 Press Corps, the group said it’s their way of paying their tributes to their murdered fellow journalists.

The food assistance distribution was organized by the Mindanao Media Services (MMS), a media and public relations firm that publishes the daily-based SAPOL News Bulletin and the weekly-based Mindanao Bulletin.

After the distribution, the group converged at the Forest Lake Cemetery of the said city where later they held “light a candle ceremony” with the families of the murdered journalists. (RASHID RH. BAJO/Photo credit to PNP-12 Press Corps)
