PANDAG, Maguindanao (BARMM) –– Mayor Zihan Mamalinta-Mangudadatu of this town joined today with millions of Muslim women in celebrating the “world Hijab Day” that falls every February 1 of every year.

In the photo, Mayor Mangudadatu wore a pink veil while sitting inside her office in Pandag municipal hall today.

Pandag is one the 36 municipalities of Maguindanao province.

For Muslim women, like Mayor Mangudadatu, wearing “hijab” is like telling the world that they proud of being a “Muslim” and considered it as an act of promoting the value and importance of wearing the veil.

Mayor Mangudadatu urged all Muslim women to wear the hijab today as their way of expressing their solidarity to the celebration.

“Hijab” is a veil that covers the head and chest.

Mayor Mangudadatu is the wife of BTA (Bangsamoro Transition Authority) Parliament Member Khaddafe “TOY” Mangudadatu of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

A press statement posted in www.worldhijabday.com, it said that World Hijab Day is an annual event and being held on February 1 of each year. It urges the “global citizens of all faiths and backgrounds to wear the Hijab (head-covering) for a day in solidarity with Muslim women worldwide.”

The global event, which was first held in 2013, was founded by Bangladesh-born New York resident Nazma Khan.

According to the said website, every February 1 of each year, women in 190 countries took part in the annual World Hijab Day. (RASHID RH. BAJO/Photo credit to LGU-Pandag)
