Pinahabang lockdown makakaapekto sa pagkasira sa ekonomiya ng Pilipinas – WB

Lubos na makakaapekto ang matagalan at pinahabang lockdown sa ekonomiya ng Pilipinas kaysa bigyang prayoridad ang mass testing laban sa patuloy na banta ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at kahit ang iba pang rehiyonal ay nakikita ang malaking epekto nito sa pagbabago ng ekonomiya, ayon sa report ng World bank.

“The Philippines relied more on prolonged restrictions on mobility rather than an effective test-based strategy,” saad sa ulat ng WB.

“…countries with greater quarterly growth contraction in 2020 had higher infection rates, imposed more stringent mobility restrictions, had more highly indebted governments and were more dependent on earnings from tourism.” dagdag pa ng WB.

Pinagbasehan din ng World Bank ang bilang ng mga isinagwang COVID-19 tests at ang GDP growth sa iba pang bansa sa Asia-Pacific.

Sakabila nito, ang Philippine economy ay bumagsak sa 9.5 percent, mas nakababahala ito kumpara sa mga nagdaang dekada.

“In countries where COVID-19 control has not been achieved, like the Philippines, rapid vaccination is a priority to reduce high numbers of deaths and pressure on struggling health systems,” pagtitibay ng World Bank .

Saad pa ng World Bank, ang bansang China at Vietnam ay mas-aangat ang kanilang ekonomiya ngayong taon sa 8.1 percent at 6.6 percent dahil sa mga pamamaraan nila laban sa virus at maiangat ang kanilang ekonomiya. Habang ang Pilipinas naman ay mananatiling mabagal ang pag-usad dahil sa patuloy na pagtatakda ng pinahabang lockdown hanggang 2022 at mayroong lamang ito na 5.5 percent GDP growth ngayong taon.
