Aktwal na P5000 Lapulapu Commemorative banknote, ipinasilip

Ipinasilip ng National Quincentennial Committee ang mukha ng P5000 Lapulapu commemorative banknote nitong Sabado (Mayo 1) na kanilang ipinoste ang aktwal na retrato ng peso bill na may imahe ng bayaning si Lapulapu.

“The quincentennial is an opportune time to promote appreciation of the world of our pre-colonial ancestors such as their way of life, worldview, and belief system based on historical sources. Understanding them helps us discern the process of our becoming and being Filipino,” saad ng pamunuan ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

Pareho itong pinagsumikapang mabuo ng National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) at ng NQC Secretariat.

Sinabi rin ng NQC na kanilang ikinonsulta ito kay archaeologist na si Eusebio Dizon, Visayan historian na si Rolando Borrinaga, Visayan anthropologist-archaeologist Jose Eleazar Bersales, Visayan historian-anthropologist Vicente Villan, at ang art historian na si Patrick Flores.

Sa pahayag naman ng BSP, ang commemorative banknote na ito ay naglalayong maipamalas ang kadakilaan ng ating bayani na si Lapulapu na kailanman ay hindi sumuko sa hamon ng pakikibaka sa kamay ng mga dayuhan upang hindi magpasakop sa ating bansa.

“…to encourage the present generation of Filipinos to rediscover and apprecite our pre-colonial history.” ayon sa BSP.

Matatandaan nitong Enero ay pinasinayan ng BSP ang P5000 Lapulapu banknote na bahagi ng 99-day countdown para sa 500 anibersaryo ng pagkilala ng Kristiyanismo sa bansa at nang mapagtagumpayan ang pakikipaglaban ng mga kasamahan ni Lapulapu sa Mactan.
