SAFEGUARDING FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, FILIPINA JOURNALIST MARIA RESSA BAGGED NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

Along with the Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov, Rappler CEO, Maria Ressa have awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for their outstanding effort in the safeguard of the freedom of expression; shaping democracy through unveiling the balance of truthful and independent journalism.

Along with the Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov, Rappler CEO, Maria Ressa have awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for their outstanding effort in the safeguard of the freedom of expression; shaping democracy through unveiling the balance of truthful and independent journalism.

The veteran journalist, Maria Ressa, who was named, Time’s: Person of the Year is a Chief Executive Officer of Rappler, a digital news portal which known their unparalleled media coverage and in-depth investigative journalism. Before founding Rappler, she has a decade of experience as a broadcast journalist for US News Network; CNN then headed the news armed of ABS-CBN, one of the biggest broadcast networks in the Philippines.

On the other hand, Muratov was known for defending freedom of speech in Russia and for 24 years, he is an editor-in-chief and co-founder of Russia’s most independent newspaper ‘Novaya Gazeta’.

According to Berit Reiss-Andersen, Chair of Norwegian Nobel Committee, Ressa and Muratov is a “representatives of all journalists who stand up for this ideal in a world in which democracy and freedom of the press face increasingly adverse conditions”. #DM
