ISULAN, SULTAN KUDARAT PROVINCE — Pot grown lettuces proudly stood at the back of a multicab, showing its freshness and greenish forms as if inviting motorists and street passerby to pull over, take a look and pick it.
“It’s amazing display of lettuce,” a woman said. “Fresh as you get it.”
Today, seeing lettuces being sold in the main street in downtown Isulan, the capital town of Sultan Kudarat province, surprised motorists and the so-called “lettuce fanatics” and “salad eaters.”
A passing woman bought three pot-grown lettuces, saying she will plant it in her backyard for “future use.”
The woman said she is a “salad eater” and she likes to crunch fresh lettuces dressed with mayonnaise in her mouth.
“I am a vegetarian and I like lettuces,” the woman told Diyaryo Milenyo Digital News in an interview this morning.
According to a global search engine Google, lettuce, or scientifically known as “Lactuca sative,” is “an annual plant of the daisy family, Asteraceae. It is most often grown as a leaf vegetable, but sometimes for its stem and seeds. Lettuce is most often used for salads, although it is also seen in other kinds of food, such as soups, sandwiches and wraps; it can also be grilled.”
Lettuce is a source of vitamin K and A. It improves bone strength, vision and sleep. #DM
