Press Release

Experience space and astronomy at NAW 2022

[by Allen Grace Galaura]

An astronomical experience awaits you. Are you in?

Broaden your awareness and understanding of astronomy as the UP Astronomical Society celebrates National Astronomy Week (NAW) on February 19 – March 5. This year observes the theme: Space and Sustainability: Relevance of Space and Space Exploration to Human Lives. True enough, years of space exploration fueled by humankind’s limitless curiosity has led to a multitude of advantages and knowledge yet to be amplified. This year, NAW 2022 celebrates that and more.

While this year’s events will be shifting into the online space, UP Astrosoc remains committed to its goal of promoting astronomy and space education across the country. Interested high school students can test and showcase their knowledge of astronomy through Big Bang, an astronomical quiz show. The general public can also join Orionids, an online trivia quiz game that will be held on UP AstroSoc’s Facebook page, as well as Star Trails, an art and astrophotography contest. Teachers and educators are also welcome to participate in the webinar workshop Parallax where they can acquire advanced instructional skills on astronomy.

To make the event more open to interested participants, Big Bang will charge an admission fee of only Php 350 per team and the rest of the events will be completely free of charge. This is to ensure more engagement towards a deeper understanding of astronomy and space science.

For more information, follow @upastrosoc on Facebook and Twitter and @upastrosociety on Instagram. An incomparable experience and lots of prizes are in store for you, so stay tuned!
