MAKATI CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in partnership with the Board of Investments (BOI), will hold the annual MANUFACTURING SUMMIT on June 21, 2022, with the theme “Shaping the Future of Philippine Industries: The Road to Resiliency through Innovation.”
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Gatheringstakeholders from the public and private sectors across the country to discuss the state and prospects for the Philippine manufacturing industry, the Summit will focus on the nation’s industrialization journey and integration of digital transformation in the country’s industrial policy amidst the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The Summit will include a session on significant policy and legislative reforms that impact the growth of the manufacturing sector, including Amendments to the Retail Trade Liberalization Act (RA 11595), Foreign Investments Act (RA 11647), and Public Services Act (RA 11659), as well as the newly enacted Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (RA 11697) and the recently approved Strategic Investment Priority Plan (SIPP).
There will also be a discussion on innovation and entrepreneurship strategies, policies, and programs being implemented by DTI, DOST and DOLE and how these could be integrated to enhance the competitiveness of the Philippine manufacturing industry in the post-pandemic future.
The Summit will also be the venue for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening Collaboration and Cooperation on Innovation between DTI and the US-ASEAN Business Council.
Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez says, “The Philippine manufacturing industry remains the most important sector for long-term productive employment, value-added generation, and innovation… We continue to be optimistic with the country now progressing towards economic recovery as proven by the expansion in our manufacturing sector… propelled by more economic sectors reopening.”
For Competitiveness and Innovation Group (CIG) Undersecretary Rafaelita Aldaba, the Summit has always been an instrumental avenue to facilitate productive discussion and sharing of insights among stakeholders from government, industry, and the academe, whose coordination and collaboration are crucial for advancing an innovative and competitive manufacturing sector.
Usec. Aldaba said: “The past six years was quite a journey, especially with the onslaught of the pandemic. But the journey has been worthwhile, as we transformed every challenge into an opportunity to revisit familiar paths and make appropriate adjustments where necessary to meet the exigencies of the time. With relevant policy interventions in place, our road to resiliency looks brighter than ever before. For us to realize our goals into full fruition, the need to intensify collaboration as we march ahead cannot be overemphasized. And with our ever-changing economic landscape, the only way for us is to innovate in order to make our industries more adaptive, resilient, and competitive.”
