DTI to promote Philippine Creative Services in Content Tokyo, Japan

Read Time:2 Minute, 0 Second

The Department of Trade and Industry – Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB) and ASEAN-Japan Centre jointly organized the Philippine Creative Services’ participation in Content Tokyo, in partnership with Philippine Trade & Investment Center (PTIC) – Tokyo, which was held from 26 June to 02 July 2022. PTIC-Tokyo organized the mission’s weeklong program. The project is also in collaboration with the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), Creative Content Creators Association of the Philippines, Inc. (SIKAP), Cybercraft Philippines Association, and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI).

In 2021, the Philippines’ Creative Industry continued to grow. The industry accounts for 6.5%–7% of the country’s GDP in the copyright-based formal sector and reproduces USD 3.2 billion in creative services, making it number 1 in the ASEAN region. This includes software and IT services, animation, game development, digital marketing, and design services.

Given the market potential of the sector, the DTI fully supports the Creative Services sector, particularly game development, which is the focus of the said mission. The Philippine Delegation to Content Tokyo Japan includes companies and industry associations engaged in original content development, game development, and other content-related services.

The business mission’s activities are Industry Briefing, a visit to the ASEAN Japan Centre, business meetings and networking with prospective clients and a visit to the Content Tokyo exhibition; a courtesy call to Deputy Chief of Mission Robespierre L. Bolivar of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).

The delegates will have the opportunity to visit major creator companies, namely:  Center of Garage, a unique incubation place for startups Japanese Super Factories, where big corporations come together; Creek and River, the “creator agency” with a network consisting of 80,000 creators and 1,000 partner productions; and the center of creative industry stores in Akihabara.

The delegation aims to obtain trade leads, build international networks, and enhance knowledge of global trends, new technologies, and products/services in the creative sectors.
