Mag-iimport ang Pilipinas ng mahigit 300,000 metric tons (MT) ng asukal sakabila nang patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng asukal sa bansa na umaabot na sa P100 kada kilo, ayon kay Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica nitong Huwebes, August 4.
Sa isang interbyu na nakalap, sinabi ni Serafica na inaprubahan na ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., ang importasyon ng asukal upang hindi magkaroon ng kakapusan o shortage sa suplay ng asukal sa bansa.
“This is very urgent. The marching order of the President is we need the supply so we are trying to get all the needed data. It is a work in progress and the SRA is working double time to finalize the importation of sugar the soonest possible time,” ani Serafica.
“This is the first time in history that the retail price of refined sugar hit P100 per kilo as traditionally, the SRP (suggested retail price) is only at P50 per kilo while the raw sugar is at P45 per kilo.” dagdag pa ni Serafica.
Sinabi pa ni Serafica na kanila nang inabisuhan ang mga kompanya na mag-submit ng kanilang projected consumption of sugar hanggang Augsut 9, 2022.
Aniya, ang kanilang iimport na 300,000 MT na asukal ay para matustusan ang pangangailangan ng bawat pamilya o households, industrial at institutional users sa bansa. #RBM
