Operations and maintenance ng MRT-3, ililipat sa pribadong sektor – DOTr

MANILA, Philippines — Kinukonsidera ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) na iturn over o ang pagpapalipat ng operasyon at maintenance ng Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) sa kwalipikadong private sector operators para sa mas maayos na opertional efficiency nito.

“We are looking at partnering with private rail operators for DOTr MRT-3’s operations and maintenance under the same scheme with LRT 1 with the rail lines assets remaining government owned,” pahayag ni Secretary Jaime Bautista sa isang statement nitong Miyerkules, Nobyembre 9.

Ayon kay Bautista na, “railway systems should remain the most affordable and safest mode of mass transit in the country.”

Paliwanag pa ni Bautista na ang operasyon ng LRT 1, LRT 2, at MRT-3 ay magpapatuloy ang pag-subsidized ng gobyerno at mapanatili ang fare levels na kaya lamang ng mga mananakay nito.

Aniya, sakaling matuloy ang pagpapa-pribado ng MRt-3 operations and maintenance nito, inaasahan na hindi lamang tututukan ang pagpapa-enhance at ang safety ng naturang tren bagkus, para rin mabawasan ang operational cost nito at mapanatili ang pamasahe sa MRT-3.

Sa lahat ng mga tren sa Metro Manila, ang MRT-3 ang malimit na pinipiling sakyan ng mga mananakay na kayang magpasakay ng higit 550,000 mga pasahero kada araw.

Matatandaan nitong 2019 hanggang 2021, isinailalim sa comprehensive rehabilitation program ang MRT-3 na pinondohan ng Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Ito ay nagresulta para sa pag-upgrade ng facilities, railway tracks, trains, at iba pang sistema ng MRT-3. ###
