KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO (January 24, 2023) –The Department of Trade and Industry Region 12 (DTI-12) conducted its 2023 Strategic Planning Session for the Wearables and Homestyle (W&H) Industry Cluster in Region 12 in a bid to boost the industry.

One of the industry clusters being supported by DTI-12 is the wearables and homestyle. The industry is composed of businesses which are utilizing materials commonly found in the community such as corn husks, abaca, water hyacinth, and bamboo. These materials are turned into gifts, decor and homestyle, fashion accessories and wearables, and furniture and furnishings.

DTI-12 OIC Regional Director of DTI-12 Flora Politud-Gabunales said that the focus of DTI’s intervention to the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) this year will be on capacitating them to onboard the digital payment platform for clients’ ease of payment transaction, the conduct of market-driven product development interventions, especially on the locally handwoven fabrics, and the heightening of a campaign for the crafters to use the indigenous materials of the region in their wearables and homestyle products.

Gabunales also gave a directive that DTI-12 will serve as a role model in patronizing the wearables and homestyle products of Region 12. As such, DTI-12 shall be incorporating handwoven fabrics into its employees’ corporate attire.

In 2022, DTI-12 assisted 501 MSMEs and conducted 33 training all over the region, which benefited about 754 individuals.
