  • The Significant Changes in the Philippine AML law,

The term “money laundering” is derived from the process of filtering dirty money through a series of transactions in order to make it appear clean. Money laundering is a three-stage process that involves placement, concealment, and integration.

Money laundering remains to be a major problem in the Philippines because it enables criminals to evade the law and enrich themselves at the expense of the public. It also has a devastating effect on the economy as it increases the cost of doing business and undermines investor confidence. The Philippine government has taken steps to combat money laundering through the enactment of the Philippine Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2001. The Philippine Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) of 2001 is the country’s anti-money laundering law. It is a comprehensive law that aims to combat money laundering by providing a legal framework for the prevention, detection, and prosecution of money laundering activities. The AMLA establishes the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) as the country’s main anti-money laundering body and gives it the power to monitor and investigate suspicious transactions.

Villasis Law Center’s upcoming seminar will be led by law professor, Bar reviewer, Member of the Board of Trustees of Good Governance Advocates, Practitioner of the Philippines, Chief AML Officer, and Chief Data Privacy Officer Dean Sergio M. Ceniza and Atty. Carmine Eliza T.
