DSWD extends relief aid to Baguio City market fire victims
Some P1,556,822 worth of relief assistance was provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Field Office-Cordillera Administrative Region (FO-CAR) on Sunday, March 12, 2023, to persons and vendors affected by the Baguio City Public Market fire incident, which happened on Saturday, March 11.
Upon receiving a report that a fire broke out at the public market, FO-CAR immediately coordinated with the CAR Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMO) for the assessment of those affected by the unfortunate event.
As of March 14, the DSWD Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center reported a total of 2,200 persons, covering 1700 vendors with razed stalls and 500 surrounding vendors, unable to sell for two days. These 2,200 vendors were initially assisted by the FO through the provision of family food packs after the onset of fire.
On March 17, the Field Office will provide P10,000 financial assistance to the identified 1,700 vendors through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation.
To date, the FO CAR has 40,660 Family Food Packs ready for distribution to disaster-affected families and P5 million standby funds available for emergency relief supplies.
The Field Office continues to coordinate with the CDRRMO for significant updates and any request for resource augmentation. ###
