In his keynote speech, BSP Governor Felipe M. Medalla cited the importance of information-sharing, policy coordination, and knowledge exchange to improve policy effectiveness and the conduct of central banking.
“For us to look to the future, it is important to look where we came from. In the BSP, this means committing to our pillars of price stability, financial stability, and a safe, secure, and efficient payments and settlements system,” the Governor added.
With the theme “Navigating through the headwinds: The way ahead for central banks,” the IRF featured eight research papers from the BSP, the academe, and international institutions.
The research papers tackled inequality and central banking; state-dependent exchange rate pass-through; expansionary fiscal consolidation under sovereign risk; biodiversity loss on the Philippine banking system; and large-scale asset purchase and sovereign debt market during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The presentations also discussed exchange rates and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) exports using the Gravity Model; structural analysis of bank competition and performance; and the welfare impact of the pandemic.
On the first day of the IRF, Assistant Governor and BRAc Head Laura L. Ignacio highlighted the significance of the IRF “to stimulate an intelligent exchange of views in order to generate innovative responses to current issues.”
The Asia School of Business co-hosted the International Research Café on the second day of the IRF, where Professor Ozer Karagedikli and Dr. Anella Munro moderated the presentations of young researchers.
Experts from the academe and senior officials from the BSP and national government agencies shared their thoughts and provided guidance during the discussions.
With nearly 200 participants, the 3rd IRF was conducted in person for the first time since its inception in 2021.
The research papers can be accessed through the BSP website at https://data.ph/irf. ###
