No one can redraw this wonderful artwork of profession, recolor these delightful smiles of learners and replace this durable frame of experiences—no one and nobody. Heartaches with echoing boos and tears of unconstructive criticisms welcomed me in the making of this kind of profession. At first glance, my high hopes and aspirations are becoming dark, yet, due to my passion, determination and devotion to be an educator, a coach and an inspiration to many, I relighted and redirected these towards success.
Look at me now. I am writing an article to express my fearless thoughts as a teacher of a public school to share the real scenarios in the four-cornered room, which I stays all day long. As the Department of Education (DepEd) embraces the new curriculum, which is the K12, it also marked the beginning of transforming the traditional ways of the teaching and learning process into a modernized and 21st century one. It sounds good, right? However, up until now, the keys towards the realization of this like the appropriate tools, facilities and even books are still insufficient. How can we be able to realize all the dreams of the new curriculum if these are happening?
It has been six long years since the Former President Benigno Aquino III, signed and approved the Republic Act 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, yet, schools are still facing lots of struggling stories. In fact, as the new curriculum begins, the increment of work demands for teachers are becoming worse affecting their class hours for the students. Nevertheless, as teachers who are known to be resilient, wise and brave, we sacrifice lot of things to be able to adapt the fast changes of the new curriculum and embrace the 21st century skills that it demand.
Teacher as a facilitor seems to be effective. Hands-on and practical activities are given to the students to assure that they have to use their own intellectual abilities in drawing various conclusions on what they are doing. To be able to produce QUALITY to LEARNERS is more satisfying and effective rather than to think about the QUANTITY of learners.
PROCUREMENT OF TECHNOLOGIES.
Despite of low salary in this world of demanding profession, educators are making wise decisions on how to procure the technologies like projectors, LED televisions and laptops inside their room, to be able to adapt the said changes and development. Due of being passionate in teaching and being eager to address the development needs of its learners, no one but teachers sacrifice on their own risk.
It has been a resounding news about the lack of discipline of students nowadays, yet, the ‘No to Corporal Punishments’ was implemented in schools. It is really a challenging job to use a subtle one on one talk with the students yet I still find it effective as long as it will be a behavior changing with lots of encouragements conversation.
As a 21st century teacher, I must admit that it is a tough job for the demands of the new curriculum is continuously increasing and the fast-changing community keeps on going. Yet, nothing but embracing the changes and believing yourself is the key to attain the goals of a modernized teacher. ##
