JAKARTA, INDONESIA—Trade and Industry Secretary Fred Pascual represented the Philippines in the 23rd ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Council Meeting held on Sunday, 3 September 2023.

Under Indonesia’s ASEAN 2023 Chairmanship banner theme, “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”, the AEC Council finalized key outcome documents such as the ASEAN Strategy for Carbon Neutrality and the ASEAN Blue Economy Framework, which aim to foster a forward-looking, connected, inclusive, and sustainable ASEAN.
Likewise, the Ministers officially launched the negotiations for the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) that will provide a coherent, harmonized, collaborative, and rules-based approach ecosystem towards a competitive and inclusive digital economy in the region.
The outcome documents of the 23rd AEC Council are to be submitted ahead of the 43rd ASEAN Summit on 5-7 September 2023. END.
