Presidential Proclamation No.1098, series of 1997, mandated the month-long celebration each year with DTI as the lead agency.

This year’s theme, “GenS: Generation Sustainable,” is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP). It heightens DTI’s initiatives on SCP, which include the advocacy on responsible sustainable consumption and production.

Meanwhile, “GenS” highlights the pivotal role of different generations in building a more sustainable future by practicing eco-conscious behaviors. The theme “GenS” acknowledges the rise of sustainability-oriented consumers and the importance of responsible consumption and sustainable lifestyles to drive meaningful change.

To widen the reach of consumers, especially when it comes to the CWM’s consumer advocacy initiatives on responsible consumption and production, and in the formulation of policies and programs on consumer protection, DTI collaborates and engages business establishments, private institutions, and other government agencies.

Throughout the celebration, diverse activities are planned, including streamer displays, Zumba dance, GenS Tiktok Challenge video creation, capability-building seminars, trivia games, and consumer education seminars in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd), DTI (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) orientation, memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing with the local government unit (LGU) and private institutions, simultaneous monitoring of fair trade laws (FTLs), radio guest appearances, Presyo Diskwento Caravans,  FTL forum and orientation, consumer corner launching,  and Bagwis awarding ceremonies.

Additionally, DTI-Davao Region will actively participate in and promote events organized by the Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau (CPAB), including participation in a webinars series of Consumer Care Webinars.

DTI-Davao Regional Director Maria Belenda Q. Ambi reaffirms the agency’s commitment to take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future.

By working together and embracing the principles of GenS: Generation Sustainable, we can make a lasting impact on our environment and contribute to the achievement of UN SDG 12,” she said. “We, therefore, encourage everyone to take part in this advocacy.”
