Secretary Pascual underscored, “Sustainability is not merely a choice; it’s a vital duty we bear to preserve the Philippines for our children and their children. It’s a pledge to safeguard our unique heritage and pass it on to future generations. So, let us unite in this mission, embrace sustainability as our way of life, and together, let’s leave a lasting legacy of a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Philippines for all.”

For this year’s celebration of the CWM, the DTI prepared several activities showcasing the 7Rs of Sustainability that Filipinos can practice in their daily lives.

From 05 October to 06 October 2023, the DTI, through the Consumer Policy and Advocacy Bureau (CPAB), organized a Kadiwa Diskwento Karavan-Refiling Activity at the DTI Head Office in Makati City dubbed as Refill at DC.

During the event, consumers were encouraged to bring their reusable containers and refill them with consumer products that are available or for sale such as cleaning materials and personal care items.

According to research conducted by Ohio-based environmental newspaper Ecowatch, with rising global plastic production, only 9% is reported to be recycled, 12% incinerated, and the rest end up in landfills or in the environment. The DTI acknowledges refilling as one of the solutions to help address plastic waste by keeping unrecyclable containers in use. Secretary Pascual calls on consumers to protect the environment by adopting a sustainable consumption mindset and practicing the 7Rs of Sustainability.

The Refill at DC, which is open to the public, is scheduled from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the following dates and places:

1.  October 11-13 at Quezon City Hall

2.  October 18-19 at Makati City Hall, and

3.  October 25 at San Juan City Hall
