PROVINCIAL: Rep. Hernandez condemns killing of Mayor Matinong, appeals for suspects’ early arrest

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines — Deputy Speaker for Mindanao and South Cotabato 2nd District Rep. Atty. Ferdinand “DINAND” Hernandez strongly condemned the “tragic murder” of his “good friend” Mayor Abog Matinong of Sto. Nino town in the Upper Valley area of the province.
Matinong was gunned down by two unidentified assassins riding in a plateless black motorcycle in Barangay Poblacion of the said town before 8 AM today.
The mayor was visiting his road concreting project when shot dead by the gunmen.
“I strongly condemn this act of violence that claimed the life of Mayor Abog— a dedicated family man, a great friend, and a hardworking public servant. True to his banner campaign Asenso Sto. Niño, it was under his leadership that the Municipality of Sto. Niño progressed exponentially,” Congressman Hernandez said in a message posted in his FB account today.
Congressman Hernandez appealed to the South Cotabato police to conduct a speedy and deeper investigation that would possibly result to the early identification and arrests of the still-to-identified suspects. The good congressman offered words of sympathy to Matinong’s family.
“I offer my sincerest condolences and sympathies to the Matinong family, especially to Mayor Abog’s wife, Charina, and their kids. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time,” Congressman Hernandez said. (Rashid RH. Bajo via DM-Mindanao Desk)
