KORONADAL, CITY — A police official, who was awarded by NAPOLCOM in 2021 for courageously leading the operation against a terror group reportedly operating in Region 12, is now the head of the police forces here.

A report posted by Top Gun Radio 106.5 FM on its official Facebook said Colonel Samuel Cadungon, provincial director of the South Cotabato police command, installed on Friday [March 22] Lt. Colonel Hoover Antonio as the new “Chief of Police” of this city in a simple ceremony here.

The installation of Antonio was attended and witnessed by several city and police officials. Antonio replaced Lt. Colonel Amor Mio Somine, who, according to sources, would be assigned at the PNP’s General Head Quarters in Quezon City.

The reassignment of junior and middle-ranking police officers is reportedly a “regulatory policy” of the PNP.

In his acceptance speech, Antonio said he sees no reason to make changes about the plans and programs laid down by Somine but he is open for any possible improvements to it if it would be necessary for the safety of the entire city.

Of course, Antonio is asking the support and cooperation of the public while serving and protecting the entire city.

Antonio is not new in Region 12.

In fact, he once served as the commander of the 1st Sultan Kudarat Provincial Mobile Force Company [SKPMF], where he got his award from NAPOLCOM, the country’s agency responsible for the control and administration of the police force.

According to a report published by a national daily newspaper [Manila Bulletin, dated September 14, 2021], it said that Antonio was among the three police officials awarded by NAPOLCOM for showing “gallantry” in the fight against communists and terror groups in Mindanao in 2020.

Antonio was chosen to receive the award of “PNP Gallantry” after he reportedly led the operation in November 2020 against a terror group operating in several places in the region.

Antonio’s operation reportedly prevented the group’s plan to bomb a shopping mall and government-built public market in a town in Sultan Kudarat province. ###
